I also think that insufficient effort has been devoted to trying to discover whether Tolstoy's admirable and morally serious empathy for the plight of the diverse inhabitants who are considered Russian (from the "old Believers to the reformist Russian Orthodox Church to the Russians in the Far East ig of Vladivostok which borders the Korean peninsula) offers a viable solution (or even the possibility of hope) to the series of existential crises emanating from moral rage which is partly conceived by addictions that had the intensity to create a totalizing disenchantment with the world as it is and thereby insisting upon relinquishment of any hope for humanity's redemption (or a future, approximate, partial, incomplete process of Resurrection, the self-named title of Tolstoy's last major novel written when he was 80 years old).
