Nowhere near as good as the first book in the series. But on the way home he ran into a problem: a stray puppy caught his eye in front of a church, and he couldn't help but smile. Writing this review reminds me to get the book out for a few laughs. The plot line makes the reader think and rethink what is "okay," even while they root for both protagonists. Tucker's audience obviously includes libertarians who want occasional reminders about the tangible benefits of freedom, but his very accessible writing style, combined with a tendency to tackle practice before theory, makes many chapters perfect for those who have political opinions but are new to the spirit of libertarian thought. We are guided through the almost annual depradations by the dastardly Volscians or the pesky Aequian on through the destruction of Veii and then the sacking of Rome by the Gauls. A relationship begins to slowly and naturally develop between the two, but is catapulted into an early marriage due to the machinations of Elizabeth's evil sister.
